In 1981, Jean-Michel Basquiat catapulted from being an unknown graffiti artist living rough on the streets, to being the darling of New York's art critics.
After a chance meeting, he sells some sketches to Andy Warhol, (David Bowie) and it isn't too long before Basquiat is the talk of the town. Now earning huge amounts of money for single paintings the 'Jimi Hendrix of the art scene' lived the rock 'n' roll lifestyle of sex and drugs to the excess. In spite of his fame, this constantly stoned young artist walked the path of self destruction, never coming to terms with the phenomenal success that led to his demise.
Basquiat features an outstanding support cast including Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken and Willem Dafoe. Along with a soundtrack that features music by The Pogues, Iggy Pop, Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel and David Bowie.
