Arthur Banks is a dispassionate assassin in cowboy boots, too smart to leave anything behind when he makes a hit, his modus operandi is to find a desperate woman, enlist her as his accomplice with the promise of a payoff and kill her right after the hit. Making his way across the desert to Mexico for his next job, Banks disposes of his latest victim and meets Bennie, a seemingly desolate and vulnerable young woman, stranded at a gas station.
Concurrently, two FBI agents, veteran Scalon and his eager rookie partner Marbury are in pursuit of Banks; when the accomplice's body unexpectedly turns up, they tighten their net, waiting for a false move that will bring him in.
