Pooja Dharamchand is the daughter of the shipping millionaire Dharamchand. The Money and pampering has made her into an arrogant, spoilt and wilful teenager. She wants to marry Deepak Kumar, a filmstar but Dharamchand would have none of it. She escapes from her father's ship and begins to make her way to Bangalore where Deepak is shooting. She meets a news reporter Raghu Jaitly. Pooja loses her purse, misses the bus. Raghu misses the bus to be with her as he senses a news story.

She needs him to reach her to Bangalore and he needs her for a sensational new story. This mutual need turns to fondness and fondness grown into love as they face every obstacle together. By the end of journey Pooja is hopelessly in love with Raghu. Here Raghu gives the situation a second thought and plans to marry Pooja. He writes a note to Pooja while she is sleeping saying that he is going to get money for the marriage and would return. Pooja wakes up in the morning to find Raghu is gone. She does not see the note. Thinking that Raghu has abandoned her, Pooja goes back to Deepak.

Pooja and Raghu two lovers think that one has cheated the other. Will Pooja marry Deepak? Will the lovers ever reconcile and will the broken hearts ever come together "DIL HAI KE MANTA NAHIN".
