    At its core, Fruits Basket is a well-written comedy about real-life difficulties that people face while growing up and how true friendships can change life forever. Tohru Honda is a cheerful 16 year old who becomes an orphan when her mother dies in a car accident. Under these unusual circumstances, she is taken in by a member of the Sohma family. It turns out that the Sohma family are no ordinary family - they are cursed. When family members are touched by members of the opposite sex, they transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac, plus the cat. It's a family secret that has been highly guarded for years. What happens when Tohru discovers the family secret?
