A former critic for Cahiers du Cinema who staked his place in film history with the remarkable A Bout de Souffle, the films in this box set mark the early part of Godard's career when, newly married Anna Karina, he cemented his growing reputation, firstly with films such as the delightful romantic comedy Une Femme est Une Femme (1961) and then with Le Petit Soldat (1963), Pierrot Le Fou (1965) and La Chinoise (1967), works that demonstrated his newly politicised form of thinking.
