Directed by Nicholas Ray (Rebel Without a Cause) Johnny Guitar is one of the most unusual westerns ever filmed. The 'good guys' wear black, gender roles are reversed and a sexual tension underscores many of the scenes.
When the railroad finally comes to a frontier boomtown, so does trouble. Enterprising business woman Joan Crawford not only controls the nearby profitable gambling, she’s been buying up enough property to make her the most powerful person in town. Arch-rival Mercedes McCambridge sets out to stop her and for Crawford out of town.

The timely arrival of Sterling Hayden as the ex-gunslinging troubadour, Johnny Guitar, temporarily thwarts McCambridge’s dark plans, but not even he can prevent a violent showdown between two power-hungry women.
