The first feature film from Academy Award winning director Roman Polanski is a harrowing exploration of lust, deception and personal obsession.
A vain sports journalist (Leon Niemczyk) and his pretty but frustrated young wife (Jolanta Umeka) almost run over a hitch-hiker (Zygmunt Malanowich) on a deserted road, triggering a battle of wits between the two men. Inviting the young man aboard their boat, the husband attempts to humiliate him and assert his own superiority, and eventually knocks him into the water. Will the young man, who claims he cannot swim, drown - or will he exact a chilling revenge?
Filmed on location in the dazzling Mazurian lake district of Poland, Knife In The Water is the controversial, daring masterpiece which unleashed the genius of Roman Polanski upon the West, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1963.
