Love comes in many shapes and forms, each form strong enough to make or break a person. When love turns to worship it can ruin many lives. Souten is the story of two women, Radha (Padmini Kolhapure) and Ruku (Tina Munim), their dilemmas and their sacrifices for the man they both love, Shyam (Rajesh Khanna). Shayam is a self-made man, who does extremely well for himself at an age when others could only dream of attaining what he has. During the days when he was struggling to make a mark for himself, he meets the daughter of a business tycoon, Ruku, who he falls in love with and eventually marries. Problems start occurrinh when the affection of Radha, the daughter of Shyam's accountant, Gopal Babu (Dr.Shreeram Lagoo) is misinterpreted by Shyam's wife. Ruku's jealously of Radha causes her to leave Shyam and ruin any chance they might have had at happiness. Radha's god like worship of Shyam kaes her onto a path of ruin, which eventually leads to her demise.
