A beautiful Parisian school teacher, arriving at her new post in the dark forests of Eastern Europe, is persuaded to stay at the castle of the mysterious Baroness Meinster.

On her first unnerving night, she discovers the Baroness's shamed son - imprisoned and shackled to the wall in a distant wing of the castle.
