THE COMPANY follows the complex lives, loves, dramas and triumphs of a company of aggressively talented dancers over a season at the world-renowned Joffrey Ballet.
At the centre of this ensemble is Ry (Neve Campbell) a tough, gifted and dedicated dancer, pushed to her physical and emotional limits by the flamboyant and charismatic choreographer and company director Mr. A (Malcolm McDowell). As the season unfolds, egos collide and insecurities take over as the art of ballet becomes a war of attrition.
In characteristic Altman style and envisioning the world of ballet as only he could, THE COMPANY serves as a love letter to artists who work in this singularly difficult and universally expressive medium. The film glides seamlessly through the array of dedicated and troubled characters, through the complex company politics, through the auditions, rehearsals and finally to the performances, which the company hopes makes all their sacrifices worth the pain and suffering they have to endure.
