The Deal is a drama that probes the complex relationship between two men, Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) and Gordon Brown (David Morrissey) - an affiliation which forms one of the most influential and significant political relationships of recent years. Since 1997, almost exclusively these two men have determined British politics - but what lies behind the enduring rivalry? The dramatisation turns back to the key days following May 12th 1994, when the Labour leader John Smith died and Gordon Brown, their heir apparent, was beaten into second place by his 'protege' Tony Blair. The repercussions of what happened then, and the enduring legacy of good and ill that stems from it, is the substance of The Deal.
