When laid back American scholar Roland Michell (Aaron Eckhart - The Pledge), discovers a collection of love letters between two prominent Victorian poets, he recognises that he's on to a big literary find. Enlisting the help of sceptical British academic Maud Bailey (Gwyneth Paltrow - Shakespeare In Love), the two embark on a journey to unravel the truth surrounding the poet's forbidden love. But as Roland and Maud track the elusive romance across the British countryside, the two scholars soon find themselves tangled in a love affair of their own.
Director Neil LaBute moves seamlessly from past to present to portray parallel love stories, in this beautiful and passionate adaptation of A.S. Byatt's Booker Prize winning novel, which also stars Jeremy Northam (Gosford Park) and Jennifer Ehle (This Year's Love).
