Vivre Sa Vie can be added to that list and lauded as one of the seminal movies of the French New Wave. Godard directs his then wife, Anna Karina, who plays Nina S, a provincial girl working as a shop assistant who, after separating from her husband, decides to become an actress.
While watching the silent classic 'The Passion of Joan of Arc', with tears streaming down her face, she abandons her ambition and drifts into a life of prostitution. The film is presented in twelve tableaux that guide us through Nana's sadly unfolding life until the shocking and poignant finale.
The film is daring and experimental both in its use of sound recording and editing, and creates an edgy and thought provoking insight into the social conditions and mores of the time.
